ZipBooks vs Wave: Which Software is Best for Your Business?

ZipBooks doesn’t show the typical line items in bank reconciliation, like deposits in transit and outstanding checks. Instead, it’ll only show the difference between the book and the bank balance. However, users of the Sophisticated plan can add more accounts, like valuation accounts for depreciation, amortization, and bad debts. I found out that the COA lacks an Accumulated Depreciation account, so I created an account for it with Fixed Assets as its parent account. Reviewers seem to agree, rating ZipBooks high across ease of use, support, and value but a little lower for functionality.

  1. Jimmy Rodriguez is the COO of Shift4Shop, a completely free, enterprise-grade ecommerce solution.
  2. It will even assign your business a health score and score your completed invoices by quality.
  3. Wave will automatically sync with your mobile device next time it’s online and upload your receipts.

There’s also an Accountant plan designed for professional accountants who provide accounting services to clients. Both ZipBooks and Wave are easy to use and offer new users an easily navigated interface, but Wave goes one step further, guiding new users through the entire system setup process. Wave’s Launchpad offers a great starting point for new users, letting you choose whether to access Professional Invoicing, Better Bookkeeping, or Reliable Payroll.

ZipBooks compensates for this missing feature by allowing unbilled expenses to be added to invoices. This feature is often reserved for the higher and more premium plans of accounting software like QuickBooks Online Plus. For only $35 a month, you get a flagship feature for an extremely low price. ZipBooks offers the integrations you’ll probably use on a regular basis, such as connecting with your bank or financial institution.

ZipBooks vs. Wave: Support

Your billing and payment information automatically syncs with the Wave Accounting software. You can manage accounts receivables, customer information, and track payments from a single dashboard. You can do double-entry accounting, and you can link the software to your bank account, eliminating the need for multiple entries. Wave gives you the option to track receipts through its mobile app (Figure D) with a paid add-on.

Small business

Bookkeeping support starts at $149 per month, and accounting and payroll coaching costs a one-time fee of $379. ZipBooks’ free plan, called Starter, is limited compared to Wave’s free plan. It lacks some of the features available in Wave’s free offering, such as automated reminders. Wave’s free plan also lets you add unlimited partners, collaborators, or accountants.

Wave Ease of Use

The payroll function automatically deducts taxes payable from each employee’s wages, and wages are credited directly to the employee’s account. Wave Payroll is a paid feature that enables you to add your employee’s details like salary, benefits, tax details, and pay structure. You can sync your timesheets or enter the hourly timings manually, and Wave Apps will calculate the wages payable. Wave Accounting enables you to generate invoices and customize them for your logo and brand color accents. You can use the invoicing feature to auto-generate invoices for repeat customers.

Online payments

Not surprisingly for a more expensive plan, QuickBooks Essentials dominated ZipBooks across almost every category. However, ZipBooks is better than Wave at project accounting, reporting, and ease of setup. The ease of setup is particularly important when bringing an existing company into new software. ZipBooks allows you to import most of your important lists, such as accounts, customers, and vendors, whereas they’ll need to be manually entered in Wave.

Comparisons of Vencru vs Zipbooks vs Wave Apps

You can create a sales tax item to track sales taxes collected by jurisdiction. However, the program doesn’t provide a very detailed report of your sales tax liability. ZipBooks is also missing any features to help pay your sales tax or file your sales tax return. There is no separate video for this area since it was already discussed in the A/R and A/P video.

If you sell a few items, Wave Accountings inventory tracking feature is a welcome bonus. The ZipBooks starter plan allows you to track up to 1099 in real-time, besides tracking receipts and managing sales and expenses. Wave lets you create professional-looking invoices quickly, then send them directly to your customers in seconds. Set up recurring billing for repeat customers and access all your customer information in one place. The invoicing and billing information flows right over into the accounting tool, minimizing accounting work required. Additionally, Wave is planning to add a paid accounting plan for businesses that have outgrown its free accounting service.

We have an extensive history of reviewing small business accounting software, and we stay up-to-date with the latest features and enhancements. Our first-hand experience, guided by our internal case study, helps us understand how the different products compare with each other and how they work in real-world scenarios. For Self-Service Payroll, you’ll only pay a $20 monthly fee, plus the same monthly fee for employees and independent contractors.

Wave offers email support for its entire product line, with live chat support available for Wave Payments and Wave Payroll users. The Wave Help Center offers access to a searchable knowledge base as well as as a zipbooks vs wave variety of topic categories. Choosing the right bookkeeping or accounting software for your small business can be challenging, particularly when most of the applications offer more similarities than differences.

ZipBooks offers a chatbot, live chat, and self-help information on their Help Center. Overall, both software service providers have poor customer support. We recommend Zoho Books for the best customer support because users have multiple ways of contacting support.

In ZipBooks Starter, you can include 1099 classification for independent contractors and charge sales taxes to invoices. Wave also shares the same features, plus creating sales tax adjustments on credit memos and viewing sales tax liabilities in detail. However, you can’t file sales tax returns and pay sales tax liability within ZipBooks or Wave. Wave reporting options are limited to 12 reports, including financial statements, a sales tax report, an aged payables and aged receivables report, and a trial balance. Wave offers limited customer management capability, with little opportunity to manage customer details such as credit limits or tax details.

Why Gold Matters: Everything You Need to Know

what is gold and silver

Mining stocks allow you to have leverage on the price of gold or silver, so a profitable miner will become much more profitable as the price of the metals rise. But if investing in individual stocks is too risky and time-intensive, you can buy an ETF that owns miners and diversify your stake. There is no clear winner between the two metals because both seem set up for long-term bullish trends and each have unique risks.

Also, global financial issues such as a fear of a government default on debt or the financial collapse of a country lead to increased demand for bullion. The price of gold bullion is influenced by demand from companies that use gold to make jewelry and other products. For example, gold becomes more popular as an investment during times of economic instability. is an independent, advertising-supported publisher and comparison service. We are compensated in exchange for placement of sponsored products and services, or by you clicking on certain links posted on our site. Therefore, this compensation may impact how, where and in what order products appear within listing categories, except where prohibited by law for our mortgage, home equity and other home lending products. Other factors, such as our own proprietary website rules and whether a product is offered in your area or at your self-selected credit score range, can also impact how and where products appear on this site.

  1. Gold bullion is produced by mints located worldwide, by either a sovereign mint or privately owned.
  2. It is easy to liquidate, has an artistic design, and has lower premiums.
  3. There will be times when the US dollar is surging and gold experiences similarly strong prices.
  4. Because gold is priced in dollars, the value of the U.S. currency can have a significant impact on the performance of the precious metal.
  5. While no major economy uses gold or silver as the basis for its currency any longer, investors still see these two metals as active stores of value.
  6. In other words, the supply will only go up over time, even if demand for the metal dries up.

The gold price is always quoted in troy ounces but can be converted into any quantity a person wants to buy or sell. Gold spot prices are universal, as most gold markets use live gold prices listed in U.S. dollars, so the price of gold per ounce is the same worldwide. They regularly write enormous contracts, for the acquisition or disposal of gold, that are never intended to be exercised. As explained above, these activtrader contracts are either “longs” (offers to buy) or “shorts” (offers to sell). At the end of the day, hardly any physical gold actually changes hands, yet the trading of these paper contracts can have a profound influence on gold’s spot price. A longer-term investing plan, often referred to as dollar-cost averaging, is when an investor makes consistent investments at regular intervals over a longer period of time.

Kitco Precious Metals — Mar 01, 2024 4:26 AM

However, gold investors who prefer to hold their investments physically do not care for this option. A gold certificate is a piece of paper stating the specific amount of gold an investor owns that is stored elsewhere. It provides a great alternative to purchasing physical gold bullion. Gold certificates differ from gold bullion because the investor never physically encounters or stores the gold. Some investors prefer the convenience of buying gold certificates. In contrast, others wish to physically see their gold bullion in their hands – both options are available to fit the investors’ preferences and investment portfolios.

what is gold and silver

Thus nearly all of the trading on the exchange results from major financial institutions making speculative moves or hedges, using large contracts as the vehicle. Gold and silver are especially popular commodity investments, in large part because of their historic relationship with money. While no major economy uses gold or silver as the basis for its currency any longer, investors still see these two metals as active stores of value. Silver is more volatile, cheaper and more tightly linked with the industrial economy. Gold is more expensive and better for diversifying your portfolio overall. The easiest way to gain exposure to gold is through the stock market, via which you can invest in the shares of gold-mining companies.

What’s the Difference Between an Ounce and a Troy Ounce?

The banks have a major advantage here, because they also generally hold the big funds’ gold accounts. So they know what their clients are doing and can place trades with or against them. This kind of trading — known as “front-running” — is illegal in the stock market, It is legal with precious hitbtc crypto exchange review metals. Gold and silver performance depends on more than just the stock market, though. Since precious metals are, among other things, a store of value, their prices tend to rise when times are tough, whether those tough times be economic, monetary, financial, or geopolitical in nature.

Silver has long-term industrial demand for electric cars and solar panel manufacturing. With a growing push for more green technological solutions, the industrial demand for silver will likely remain steady or even increase. “Silver has undergone a remarkable transformation over the last 25 years, and if the current trends continue unabated, demand for silver in the industrial sector is likely to grow dramatically,” says Crosby. td ameritrade forex review A list of gold-mining companies includes Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX.TO), Newmont Corp. (NEM), and Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), among others. Passive investors who want great exposure to the gold miners may consider the VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF (GDX), which includes investments in all the major miners. The main problem with gold is that, unlike other commodities such as oil or wheat, it does not get used up or consumed.

Gold has traditionally been used as a store of wealth for thousands of years. Almost two thousand years later, one can use an ounce of gold to buy a nice suit, and have money left over. The analogy has been used by many gold investors over the years to illustrate that in the long run gold has held its value tremendously well and in a manner that most assets cannot. This is why gold is considered a hedge against inflation, and why long term investors ignore short term price swings in gold spot prices. Gold derivatives are financial instruments linked to the price of gold, offering investors flexible ways to participate in the gold market without owning physical gold. Gold futures and options contracts, traded on exchanges like COMEX, enable speculation and hedging based on future gold prices.

SmartAsset Advisors, LLC (“SmartAsset”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Financial Insight Technology, is registered with the U.S. Also, you might not want to buy physical silver if you anticipate needing your money quickly. That’s because physical silver might not be immediately liquid the same way that gold can be. It takes time to sell, and the large volume of the metal can lead to extra costs like storage and insurance fees. Find out more about how to start investing in gold today with a free information kit. The most common way to invest in physical gold is through an exchange-traded fund (ETF) like the SPDR Gold Shares (GLD), which simply holds gold.

Bitcoin Price Chart

The spot price is based on trading activity in the futures markets. As a result, many investors hold gold in their portfolio specifically for if they need liquidity during a downturn. For example, a recession is the worst time to sell stocks but the best time to buy them. Having a pre-existing investment in gold can give you a valuable asset to sell during a recession so that you can buy other people’s undervalued assets without selling your own.

Silver, by contrast, has always had a market-determined price, and its price history is marked by the sharp fluctuations you’d expect absent any constant-price peg determined by the federal government. This would indicate that the USD has weakened relative to the other major currencies, and that gold is really not up as it may appear. This would indicate that the USD has strengthened relative to the other major currencies, but that gold has gained in value. With APMEX, your Precious Metals purchase is guaranteed and fully insured. Learn more about your purchasing and shipping options, and find APMEX reviews from satisfied customers, through APMEX. A good S&P 500 index fund will do you better than gold in the long run, but this can be a good countercyclical asset if you want to ensure liquidity in the event of a recession.

The price of gold rose from approximately $850 an ounce to $1,400 an ounce. A 2008 buy of 80 ounces of silver against a short sell of one ounce of gold would have resulted in a profit of $1,520 in silver against a loss of $550 in gold, for a net profit of $970. With a rising market, a silver shortage, an inelastic supply, and the precedent of silver prices going over $30, the odds are good that current silver prices will continue to rise. When silver prices are high, is the optimal time to make a return on your investment.

Although most physical metal investors are investing for the long term, there are also plenty of investors who are analyzing gold and silver price charts to make much shorter term plays. This lot of investors uses various analysis tools, calculators, and simply feel to guess as to which way gold and silver prices may move over the next day or two, based on the past day or two’s movements. Because gold is priced in dollars, the value of the U.S. currency can have a significant impact on the performance of the precious metal. A strong dollar makes gold more expensive for buyers in other countries, potentially leading to lower gold prices. On the other hand, a weaker dollar makes gold more affordable for international purchasers and may bring increased prices.

In the case of gold, each of them represents 100 ounces of the metal. For silver, contracts are for 5,000 ounces (although they may be split into five segments of 1,000 ounces each). It is possible for individuals to buy physical gold or silver on the Comex, but the size of the contracts puts them out of the reach of all but the most affluent buyers. In addition, taking delivery of metal from the Comex is a complicated procedure.

Thus you will pay more than spot if you are buying and will receive less than spot if selling — with small, local dealers generally charging the highest premiums. There will also be shipping and handling fees, and possibly taxes if you buy locally. The determination of gold spot prices also involves other major exchanges, notably the COMEX (Commodity Exchange, Inc.), in addition to the LBMA. While the LBMA plays a crucial role in setting global standards and benchmark prices, COMEX, a division of the CME Group, is prominent in gold futures and options trading. The prices established on COMEX, particularly the most actively traded futures contracts, influence spot prices.

Indifference Curve : Meaning, Assumptions & Properties

Intermediate Microeconomics Copyright © 2019 by Patrick M. Emerson is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, except where otherwise noted. Indifference curves indicate complete replaceability, which means they should not overlap in demand, but be parallel. If cats (A) are preferred to dogs (B) and dogs (B) are preferred to antelopes (C), then it must be that cats (A) are preferred to antelopes (C). A good that makes a consumer just as well off as a fixed amount of another good, i.e., Morton and Diamond Crystal are brands of table salt. Goods that consumers want to consume only in fixed proportions, i.e., airpods to an iPhone.

This is just as good to the consumer as a bundle with ten teaspoons of Morton salt and zero teaspoons of Diamond Crystal, as in bundle [latex]B[/latex]. It is also just as good as the ten teaspoons of Diamond Crystal and zero teaspoons of Morton in bundle [latex]C[/latex]. Now we can ask what bundles are better, worse, or the same in terms of satisfying this college student. Clearly, bundles that contain fewer of both goods, like [latex]Bundle D[/latex], are worse than [latex]A[/latex], [latex]B[/latex], or [latex]C[/latex] because they violate the more-is-better assumption.

  1. If two indifference curves intersect with each other, it would mean that one point on each curve gives the same level of satisfaction which contradicts the meaning of an indifference map.
  2. This property implies that an indifference curve has a negative slope.
  3. For example, a child may gain the same satisfaction level from one ice cream and two chocolates, or three ice creams and one chocolate.
  4. She could also spend less than $250, purchasing combinations that lie below and to the left of the budget line in Figure 7.9.
  5. It means that as the amount X is increased by equal amounts that of Y diminish by smaller amounts.

Another way to think about the new budget line is to remember that its slope is equal to the negative of the price of the good on the horizontal axis divided by the price of the good on the vertical axis. When the price of horseback riding (the good on the horizontal axis) goes down, the budget line becomes flatter. Indifference curves are a graphical representation of the different combinations of two goods that provide the same level of satisfaction or utility to a consumer.

Because the market asks that she give up less than she is willing to give up for an additional day of horseback riding, she will make the exchange. Beginning at point S, she will exchange a day of skiing for a day of horseback riding. Recall that we can draw an indifference curve through any point; she is now on indifference curve E.

There are other combinations of the two activities that would yield the same level of total utility. Combinations of two goods that yield equal levels of utility are shown on an indifference curve. Because all points along an indifference curve generate the same level of utility, economists say that a consumer is indifferent between them.

This fall in units of one good to gain more of another good gives a downward slope to the indifference curve. A curve or a graphical representation of the combination of different goods providing the same satisfaction level to the consumer is known as Indifference Curve. One cannot put a numerical value on the level of satisfaction gained from the consumption of goods. However, they can tell their preference between two goods, i.e., which good gives them more or less satisfaction. This satisfaction level is depicted through an indifference curve.

Considering more than two commodities in IC analysis makes the calculations more complex. This may further make it difficult to predict consumer behaviour. Thus, it does not consider market behaviour in the analysis of consumer behaviour. For example, properties of indifference curve a change in the price of other commodities in the market may affect the purchase of the commodities being considered. In short, the further away a particular curve is from the origin, the higher the level of satisfaction it represents.

Her marginal rate of substitution between points S and T is 2; her indifference curve is steeper than the budget line at point S. The fact that her indifference curve is steeper than her budget line tells us that the rate at which she is willing to exchange the two goods differs from the rate the market asks. She would be willing to give up as many as 2 days of skiing to gain an extra day of horseback riding; the market demands that she give up only one. The marginal decision rule says that if an additional unit of an activity yields greater benefit than its cost, it should be pursued. Suppose Ms. Bain spends 2 days skiing and 3 days horseback riding per semester. She will derive some level of total utility from that combination of the two activities.

Understanding Indifference Curves

Indifference curves are a fundamental concept in microeconomics, used to represent consumer preferences and the trade-offs that consumers are willing to make between different goods. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive guide on how to prove the properties of indifference curves, including their key concepts, applications, and significance. People cannot really put a numerical value on their level of satisfaction.

As stated above, when two goods are perfect substitutes of each other, the indifference curve is a straight line on which marginal rate of substitution remains constant. Straight-line indifference curves of perfect substitutes are shown m Fig. Now consider bundle [latex]A[/latex] on one of the indifference curves. It represents more of both goods than bundle [latex]C[/latex], which lies on the other indifference curve. Bundle [latex]B[/latex] also represents more of both goods than bundle [latex]D[/latex], and therefore [latex]B[/latex] should be preferred to [latex]D[/latex]. However, [latex]D[/latex] is on the same indifference curve as [latex]A[/latex], so [latex]B[/latex] should be preferred to [latex]A[/latex].

Typically, indifference curves are shown convex to the origin, and no two indifference curves ever intersect. Most economic textbooks build upon indifference curves to introduce the optimal choice of goods for any consumer based on that consumer’s income. Classic analysis suggests that the optimal consumption bundle takes place at the point where a consumer’s indifference curve is tangent with their budget constraint. An indifference curve is a contour line where utility remains constant across all points on the line. Each point on an indifference curve represents a consumption bundle, and the consumer is indifferent among all consumption bundles on the indifference curve. In economics, an indifference curve is a line drawn between different consumption bundles, on a graph charting the quantity of good A consumed versus the quantity of good B consumed.

Diminishing Marginal Rate of Substitution

As all the points on one Indifference Curve represents equal satisfaction, therefore every point on IC2 represents a combination, preferred to that represented by any point on IC. An Indifference Curve to the right represents a preferred position and therefore a consumer will always try to move on the indifference map as much to the right as possible. When these combinations are plotted on the graph, the resulting curve is called indifference curve. This curve is also called the iso-utility curve or equal utility curve.

By stating the problem of utility maximization with equations, we could extend the analysis to any number of goods and services. The number of units of one good a consumer is willing to give up to get one more unit of another good and maintain the same level of satisfaction. If bundle [latex]A[/latex] represents more of at least one good and no less of any other good than bundle [latex]B[/latex], then [latex]A[/latex] is preferred to [latex]B[/latex]. The MRS is the number of units of one good a consumer is willing to give up to get one more unit of another good and maintain the same level of satisfaction. Recall that we are assuming that the tax credit will cause the average fuel economy of US cars to double. So from a consumer behavior perspective, one of the things we want to know in evaluating the policy is whether this improvement in gas mileage will cause an equivalent decrease in the demand for gasoline.

If indifference curves were not convex, then the consumer would be willing to trade the same amount of one good for a smaller amount of the other good, regardless of the quantity of the goods already consumed. However, this would contradict the assumption of diminishing marginal utility, as the consumer would be gaining the same amount of utility from consuming a smaller amount of the second good. To prove that indifference curves are downward sloping, we can use the concept of marginal rate of substitution (MRS).

Perfect complementary goods are used in a certain fixed ratio. Another point which is worth mentioning in this regard is that indifference curves cannot even meet or touch each other or be tangent to each other at a point. The meeting of two indifference curves at a point will also lead us to an absurd conclusion. The same argument holds good in this case as developed above in the case of intersection of indifference curves. Our basic assumption is that the consumer compares such combinations of various quantities of the two commodities that make him indifferent among the combinations. Note also that one of the ordinality analyses is that consumers have a minimum of two commodities hence opportunity for choice exists.

Preference relations and utility

For the British prisoners, the utility-maximizing solution is at point E, with more tea and little coffee. For the French prisoners the utility-maximizing solution is at point E′, with more coffee and less tea. In equilibrium, both British and French prisoners consumed tea and coffee so that their MRS’s equal 1/2, the price ratio in the market. Figure 7.13 combines Janet Bain’s budget line from Figure 7.9 with her indifference curves from Figure 7.11. Our two conditions for utility maximization are satisfied at point X, where she skis 2 days per semester and spends 3 days horseback riding. Lilly would receive equal utility from all combinations of books and doughnuts on a given indifference curve.

To simplify, let’s identify two bundles, [latex]A[/latex] and [latex]B[/latex]. The way we think of preferences always boils down to comparing two bundles. Even if we are choosing among three or more bundles, we can always proceed by comparing pairs and eliminating the lesser bundle until we are left with our choice. Indifference curves have been criticized for making unrealistic assumptions about consumer behavior.

It performs all the banking functions of the State and Central Government and it also tenders useful advice to the government on matters related to economic and monetary policy. The organization also aims to maintain macroeconomic stability, financial stability, and a modern monetary policy framework in order to address the challenges posed by an increasingly complex economy. To curb inflation, the RBI increases repo rate which will make borrowing costs for banks. Banks will pass this increased cost to their customers which make borrowing costly in the whole economy. Fewer people will apply for loans and aggregate demand will be reduced.

The bank will be left with no choice but to raise its interest rate which will make borrowing by its customers more costly. This will in turn reduce the overall demand and hence prices will eventually come down. CRR refers to the ratio of bank’s cash reserve balances with RBI with reference to the bank’s net demand and time liabilities to ensure the liquidity and solvency of the scheduled banks. The share of net demand and time liabilities that banks must maintain as cash with the RBI. The RBI has set CRR at 4.5%[111] A 1% change in CRR affects the economy by ₹1.37 trillion.[111] An increase draw this amount from the economy, while a decrease injects this amount into the economy.

The Mumbai Interbank Offer Rate (MIBOR) serves as a benchmark for interest rate–related financial instruments in India. The government securities which are provided by banks as collateral can not come from SLR quota (otherwise the SLR will go below 19.5% of NDTL and attract penalties). The Reserve Bank has custody of the country’s reserves of international currency, and this enables the Reserve Bank to deal with crisis connected with adverse balance of payments position.

The functions, objectives, history, composition, and powers are some of the essential topics for the upcoming IAS exam. Apart from these traditional function, the RBI performs various activities of promotional and developmental nature.

Important Government Schemes on Capital & Money market

The central banking institution was founded on 1st April 1935 to respond to the economic crisis and issues that emerged after the first world war. The bank was set up at the suggestion of the Hilton Young Commission, also known as the Royal Commission of Indian Currency and Finance. The Reserve Bank of India (abbreviated as ‘RBI’) is the central bank and the chief regulatory body of all financial bodies in India. The RBI is under the ownership of the Government of India, and it is solely responsible for controlling, maintaining, and issuing the currency, banking decisions, and other financial-related decisions in the country. The Reserve Bank of India acts as a parent bank to all the primary banks operating in India. Also, it keeps an eye on the financial transactions of the banks so that amount of account holders remain secured in the banks.

We all know that the RBI Governor’s signature is on every currency note that is printed in India. The RBI prints notes and issues coins and also destroys them, if they are not fit to use. The objective is to maintain an adequate money supply in the country and also to ensure that the credit system in the country is working well. The RBI also needs to ensure price stability while maintaining economic growth. Do you know that the RBI also handles the reserves of the country?

Bankers’ bank

It issues notes of every denomination, except one-rupee note and coins and small coins, through the Issue Department of the Bank. In 1921, the Imperial Bank of India was set up to proceed as the national bank of India by the British Government. However, the Imperial Bank weakened to express its achievement sufficiently and didn’t make any progress as the Central Bank. At that point, the Government asked the Hilton Young Commission in 1925 to see this matter. The commission presented their reports saying that one single association can’t have the option to go about as two separate organizations, both credit and cash control. In the first April 1935, the Reserve Bank of India was set up.

All other currency except the one-rupee denomination has the signature of the Governor. It also works to maintain the stability of the financial system. This is particularly important for protecting the interests of those who deposit their money in banks.

Moreover, it also states the usage of financial instruments that are under the authority of the Reserve Bank. It is also responsible for operating the currency and credit system of India and having a modern monetary framework to meet the challenges of a developing economy. RBI must also maintain price stability along with the objective of economic growth.

These two factors lead to a price difference between the two termed the ‘spread’ which will change depending on different supply/demand dynamics and geopolitical influences. Saudi Arabian oil is neither WTI, extracted in the U.S., nor Brent, extracted in the North Sea near Europe. Saudi Arabia’s state-owned oil company, Saudi Aramco, uses the Dubai/Oman crude oil benchmark when pricing its oil for delivery to Asia. Crude oil is one of the most important commodities in the world, serving as a key energy source and as a raw material used to produce plastics, chemicals and other products. Nearly all the crude oil imported or produced in the U.S. is refined into petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel and heating oil.

Though European gas prices have tumbled 37% since November, Goldman Sachs says that’s due to demand destruction, and structural headwinds remain.
